Some terms explained
Craft CMS
A CMS - or Content Management System - is a software application, usually a web application, used to publish data on the Internet without the need for technical knowledge. Compare it somewhat to Wordpress, where you can use building blocks created by us to shape your website. The difference with CMS systems like Wordpress, is that with Craft CMS we have a lot more possibilities, so we can meet your demands as good as possible.
Front-end vs. Back-end
By the front-end of your website, we refer to what an ordinary visitor sees on your site: the appearance, or public interface of your site, that is. In the backend of the website, you as the administrator manage the content as it will appear on the frontend of your website. Usually the backend consists of a CMS such as Craft, WordPress or Drupal. You add texts and files (such as photos or videos) in the backend and these appear with a layout specifically designed for your project in the frontend.
Staging vs Production/Live
In every project, in addition to the 'prodcution/live' environment of the website, we always set up a 'staging' environment or test environment. You can think of this as a copy of your website, where we as developers can run tests unabashedly (without your users noticing). That staging environment is very important when we want to perform actions to optimize or update the website. After all, before we throw anything online, we want to make sure that those actions won't impact other parts of the website. In some cases, you also get access to the staging environment, e.g. when we develop new features for your website. This allows you to check them out and give us feedback before they are actually live. The staging environment is therefore always a secure environment that is not discoverable by search engines and other people, except us at Max P. Design, and you as our client. Only after extensive testing are the new features published on the live environment.
Newsletters
Many websites allow you to subscribe to an online newsletter. It may be that you already used it in your previous site, e.g. via Mailchimp, Flexmail or Campaign Monitor, and want to continue this. If you don't have a newsletter system yet, or you want to switch, Max P. Design can help you with this. We use MailChimp or Campaign Monitor for this purpose.
We are happy to set up an account for you and can even create a newsletter template based on your website design. That way your newsletter will match the style of your website. Feel free to ask for more info or visit our website.
Cookie & privacy policies
Since 2018, it has been mandatory to publish a cookie policy and a privacy policy on every website.
What all must be included in this privacy policy depends on what you do with personal data. Do you use cookies on your website? If so, this should also be explained. We recommend going through our policy templates and contacting us if necessary to fill them out correctly.
Just about every website stores visitors' personal data, such as the data sent when filling out a contact form.
A privacy statement should be written in clear and understandable Dutch. Make sure you describe all points as concisely as possible.
In addition, the statement should be findable on the website. For most websites that already have a privacy statement, you can find the statement in the footer, the last section of every page on your website. It is also mandatory to add a direct link to your privacy statement in places where visitors must enter personal data, such as a contact form. This is because visitors must explicitly indicate that they have read the privacy statement and agree to it.
We have two templates for these statements ourselves, which you can use for inspiration. But be sure to check if these are adequate for your organization and website. Feel free to contact us for more information on this, or review this in detail with the DPO within your organization. In complex cases, it is best to consult a legal expert.
